THE PORCH HOUSE

This project centered on the design of a 730 sq. ft. detached Accessory Dwelling Unit on a 1.7 acre property. While the lot offered generous space, the intention was to create a thoughtfully designed ADU that felt like a complete, high quality home in its own right. The residence includes a spacious bedroom, full kitchen, dedicated laundry area, and a welcoming living space designed for everyday comfort.

For this client, timing was a priority. They came with a clear vision and needed an experienced residential architect who could translate that vision into a fully permitted ADU without unnecessary delays. Our focus was to move efficiently from concept through city approvals while ensuring the compact footprint felt open, bright, and intentional.

The layout was carefully planned to maximize every square foot. A full span covered porch extends the living space outdoors, enhancing indoor outdoor living and making the home feel significantly larger than its 730 square feet. Inside, we designed the unit to function as a true primary residence, incorporating a full kitchen, dedicated laundry, and ample storage.

With extensive experience in local zoning and the ADU permit process, we prepared detailed documentation to support a smooth city review. By staying closely aligned with the client’s goals and timeline, we were able to move the project forward efficiently and begin construction sooner than expected.

The result is a beautifully executed detached ADU that complements the main estate while offering privacy, functionality, and long term flexibility. It stands as an example of how thoughtful ADU design can transform even a small footprint into a fully realized home.
